Waiting Parents: Derek and Amber

We are Derek & Amber (& Felicity) from the beautiful Pacific Northwest.  We would love the opportunity to connect and get to know you and your hopes and dreams for the future.  Feel free to reach out with any questions or requests.

We love family, and we especially love children. A few years ago, we learned that we were medically unable to conceive and would not ever be able to have biological children. We were quite devastated with that news at the time, but also hopeful since we have always considered adoption to be a beautiful way to build a family.

Our daughter Felicity was born in Dallas in 2019, and we were honored and thrilled to be chosen by her first parents to adopt her as our own. Being parents has been a dream come true, and we can’t wait to add another child to our family. We are blessed to be in a financial position where Amber can transition to be a full-time stay-at-home parent. In addition, Derek’s work is flexible & he can work from home as needed

Daniel, Mary, and Samuel

We met in college and were best friends for two years before deciding to date. Because our relationship has always been built on a firm foundation of friendship, we have a strength unusual among marriages. Years later we’re still best friends, who just happen to also be madly in love. We honestly don’t fight but have occasional disagreements. We communicate very well and try to work things out promptly. We’ve never (not even once) gone to bed angry at each other. We treasure our marriage so much that we are willing to put aside our pride & personal preferences, apologize when needed and make compromises. It’s not always easy, but it’s definitely worth it!

Meet Derek (By Amber)

Derek is truly one of a kind. He has such a big heart, with a laid-back yet youthful spirit. He’s always making (corny) jokes and is willing to do anyone a favor. Derek is naturally athletic, creative and musical. He can pick up any instrument and play something entertaining. Whatever Derek does, he is all in. He works hard but plays even harder.

I always knew Derek would be an amazing father – I saw how he interacts and cares for all the children in his life. Every day, Felicity and I experience his deep and consistent love. He never has a harsh or unkind word. He never loses his temper. He is patient, unselfish, and even sacrificial in his love. Derek has consistently proven how deeply he treasures those whom he has chosen to love forever.

Meet Amber (By Derek)

Amber is incredibly caring. She often tries to defer to other people’s preferences in life. She loves giving gifts and seems to remember everyone’s birthday taking special care to select the most meaningful and appreciated gifts for others. Amber is also organized & hardworking who happens to love fun & adventure. She knows what she wants and sets out to accomplish it. Because of her ambitions she started college at 16, planned our travels around the world, and won a car on a game show!

Amber constantly lives and thinks about what would make Felicity’s childhood amazing. From the start Amber has made sure every little detail is planned, from nursery to playroom, clothes, foods, education, and fun. She has read and studied so much about raising and caring for children that she is almost like an encyclopedia of baby information!

We’re silly. We’re adventurous. We enjoy cooking & trying new foods. We love throwing fun parties and we go all out for holidays. We love travelling. We adore children. We love where we live; an hour from the beach, an hour from a huge mountain, and surrounded by lakes, rivers, and parks.

Parenting is a lifelong commitment. We are committed to loving and cherishing our future child forever for who they are. We plan to invest into education & life skills so our children can flourish in whatever their natural skills are. Music, athletics, science, teaching. computer skills, art, building, working with hands–Whatever our child’s aptitude is, we’ll endeavor to find it and help them realize their full potential.

We also want to make sure that they know their roots and will be open with them about their journey and first family. We promise to always speak about our children’s first families with honor and respect, and make sure that our children know that they are loved. We also promise to keep the door open for communication and/or visits long term so our children can keep connections.

We would love the opportunity to connect and get to know you and your hopes and dreams for the future.  Feel free to reach out via the agency with any questions or requests. We are open to any level of communication and relationship you are comfortable with.

We wish you and your child all the best.
