Waiting Parents: David and Helen

Hello from Helen, David, and Isaac! Before we talk about ourselves, we want to share how much respect and admiration we have for you. We cannot imagine what you are facing, and it is a testament to you that you are making such a loving choice for your baby. You will always be spoken of highly in our family, and we pray for you daily.

How we met:

Our dads met each other at a conference over fifty years ago! Forty plus years later, our families introduced us when we moved to the same city. We knew pretty quickly after meeting that this was it for us. Three months later we were engaged, and eleven months after that we were married. We recently celebrated seven years of marriage, and our life still feels like one giant adventure.

Children:

We have one son, Isaac, who we adopted in October 2023. In his first year and a half, he has grown into a joyful, curious, and exuberant little dude! He is always smiling, climbing on things, figuring out how things work, and surprising us with his growth and energy. He loves to run around outside, open and close… everything, play with water, and there is always room in his tummy for a snack.

Activities:

For fun, we like to read together, grill in our backyard, watch college basketball, and drive our manual transmission car. Our most important interest is our Catholic faith and we truly enjoy practicing it in our home and being active members of our parish.

These days, a lot of our activities revolve around Isaac. We attend a baby social hour or play with a toddler group at our church, and attend a music class during the week. On weekends, we go to swim class and have family time. On Sundays, we attend church in the morning, then
spend the afternoon at a local playground after naps.

We also love to travel, whether around Texas or to another country. One of the coolest perks of David’s job is that it allows us to travel more easily (especially when Isaac gets a little older). We’re excited to take our children to all kinds of new places.

Family:

We’re grateful to be close with our families on both sides. It’s been a huge blessing to watch how excited everybody is to have Isaac in our family. Helen’s mom lives nearby, and is very present in our lives. David’s parents live a couple hours away, and manage to visit at least once per month, but often more frequently. Our siblings, unfortunately, don’t live in Texas. We wish they did, because Isaac has three aunts, two uncles, and one cousin who are smitten with him.

Careers

David studied engineering in college and now works as an airline pilot. Helen used to work as an economist for a transportation company before becoming a full time stay at home mom (much more demanding but also much more rewarding).

Our home:

We live in a four bedroom home on a half-acre lot, in a suburban part of Texas. If you were to stop by, odds are you would find Isaac and our dog Winston playing in the backyard. We’re blessed to live in a social, family friendly neighborhood with a lot of young families. We’re excited for Isaac and his future siblings to have friends (and babysitters) in the neighborhood to grow up with.

Pets

Our English bulldog, Winston, is an eight year old couch potato. He’s gentle with Isaac, even while Isaac is learning to improve his motor and social skills (i.e. pulling on his ears). He also loves to be with us, always wanting to be nearby regardless of the activity.
